| Dear Lynne,
Preparatory to her upcoming annual IEP we just received
one of our therapists’ written status reports on our granddaughter.
What a fantastic job has been done over the past year and
a half! When first seen she had severe receptive and expressive language
problems (on top of being autistic). Spontaneous speech was confined to
single word nouns and very few of those. Obviously her communicative ability
was restricted, almost totally confined to labeling items. On the good
side her words could be clearly understood. We began using two of your
staff, Carrie Confer Kebelbeck and Vicki Claymon.
And now, only a year and a half later, we have a young girl
(almost 4) who, using 4-5 word sentences, can appropriately describe actions
and has a vocabulary that surprises us daily. The additional work of Vicki
and her daughter utilizing homemade instructional videos (do you know
a 4 year old who doesn’t watch videos?) has really hit home. Our
granddaughter has substantially increased her receptivity of the world
around her as shown by ability to request, follow simple directions and
answer most structured questions.
Given her diagnosis of autism and the well-known accompanying
communication handicap, this progress is, to us, amazing. I believe credit
goes to Vicki and Carrie’s structured, organized and well thought
out therapy sessions.
We thank you for your personal encouragement, patience and
positive thoughts.
Best wishes for continued success.
Bob and Sandie
