Clinical Biography
Ms. C. W. received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in German Literature
and Language from the University of Missouri-Columbia following two years
of study in Germany as an exchange student. The experience of communicating
in a foreign language led her to seek a profession, which would enable
her to assist others with communication. C. W. enrolled in post-baccalaureate
studies in the field of Communication Disorders and graduated with her
Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from Central Missouri
State University. During her graduate studies, C. W. completed several
clinical rotations, including one at Truman Medical Center, where she
worked with adults with a variety of swallowing and communication disorders
secondary to strokes, Alzheimer’s, and Traumatic Brain Injuries.
C. W. was proud to receive first place from her university for her
graduate research project, which focused on identifying potential
reading disorders in preschool-aged children.
Since graduating, C. W. has worked in the public school
setting through EBS Healthcare, an agency which contracts with school
districts. She has experience with both individual and group therapy,
and has served a wide range of children in terms of age and disability.
The variety of speech/language issues she has treated includes articulation
and language delays and disorders, language processing disorders, verbal
dyspraxia, and social communication deficits. She has worked a great
deal with children with autistic spectrum disorder and is gaining experience
in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
C. W. is known for her clinical observation skills and
approaches therapy with sensitivity to the “whole” child.
She is dedicated to collaborating with children, their families, and
other professionals.
