Clinical Biography

Ms. C. W. received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in German Literature and Language from the University of Missouri-Columbia following two years of study in Germany as an exchange student. The experience of communicating in a foreign language led her to seek a profession, which would enable her to assist others with communication. C. W. enrolled in post-baccalaureate studies in the field of Communication Disorders and graduated with her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from Central Missouri State University. During her graduate studies, C. W. completed several clinical rotations, including one at Truman Medical Center, where she worked with adults with a variety of swallowing and communication disorders secondary to strokes, Alzheimer’s, and Traumatic Brain Injuries. C. W. was proud to receive first place from her university for her graduate research project, which focused on identifying potential reading disorders in preschool-aged children.

Since graduating, C. W. has worked in the public school setting through EBS Healthcare, an agency which contracts with school districts. She has experience with both individual and group therapy, and has served a wide range of children in terms of age and disability. The variety of speech/language issues she has treated includes articulation and language delays and disorders, language processing disorders, verbal dyspraxia, and social communication deficits. She has worked a great deal with children with autistic spectrum disorder and is gaining experience in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

C. W. is known for her clinical observation skills and approaches therapy with sensitivity to the “whole” child. She is dedicated to collaborating with children, their families, and other professionals.
